Questions and answers

Short answers to the questions couples (and their parents) ask us most. Anything else? Send us a message on Etsy.

What is a ketubah?

A ketubah (keh-TOO-bah) is the Jewish marriage document. The couple signs it at the wedding, usually with two witnesses, and then hangs it at home as a reminder of the promises they made. Our ketubahs are modern: the words are about love, partnership and the home you build together.

Which texts do you offer?

We have four texts, written in modern ketubah style: Interfaith, Reform / Egalitarian, Secular / Humanist and Love & Friendship. You can read them all in full on our texts page. Or choose "Custom Text" and send us your own words. For anniversaries and vow renewals there is also our Anniversary & Vow Renewal text.

Every text works for any couple: bride and groom, two brides, two grooms or partners, and the Hebrew is adjusted to match. Interfaith and same-sex couples are warmly welcome. We don't offer Orthodox, Conservative or Aramaic texts.

How does ordering work?

Choose a design in our Etsy shop, pick a size and text, and answer five short questions: who the couple is, your names, the wedding date and city, which text, and Hebrew names or requests if you have any.

We send you a proof by Etsy message within 24 hours. Your rabbi or officiant is welcome to review it. Once you approve, we print it, and it ships in 1–2 business days.

We don't have Hebrew names. What happens?

That's fine. We write your names in Hebrew for you, and you see them on the proof before anything is printed. If you do have Hebrew names, add them in the last question when you order.

How early should we order?

Most couples order about a month before the wedding. Your ketubah ships 1–2 business days after you approve the proof. Express shipping is available at checkout. In a hurry? Send us a message on Etsy.

What sizes do you offer?

Four square sizes: 15 × 15, 17 × 17, 20 × 20 and 24 × 24 inches (38, 43, 51 and 61 cm). 15 × 15 in is the most popular.

What paper and inks do you use?

Each ketubah is a giclée print, made with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308, a 100% cotton fine-art paper with a soft matte surface.

How do we sign it?

Use a fine-tip archival pen with black or dark ink, and try it on scrap paper first. Lay the ketubah flat on a clean, hard surface. Many couples sign shortly before the ceremony, together with two witnesses and the officiant; others sign right after. Either way is fine. Let the ink dry before you roll or frame it.
